F-14B NSAWC (Real Top Gun) Splinter Scheme (Livery Only) v1.0
Long overdue in my opinion.
While we are all infatuated with the movie, the real Navy Top Gun F-14 aircraft were less common on the Fallon flightline compared to their aggressor counterparts like F/A-18, A-4, or F-5. NSAWC (now NAWDC) did however operate F-14’s in their adversary program.
I have spent plenty of time in Fallon (not Miramar) but F-14’s were gone from NAWDC long before I started TDY’ing over there so I never got to see them fly (but have seen plenty of F-5’s, Vipers, and obviously Hornets/Rhinos)
This repaint is a tribute to one of those aggressor Tomcats that flew in the NSAWC Splinter Livery long before I was there.
Some Features:
– Added a mock helmet design to mimic aggressor squadron – This, I know, isn’t true to life because these are mostly sported by the Top Gun adversary F-5 (VFC) squadrons as of late and not the Top Gun N7 (yes, the real Top Guns that wear the light blue t-shirts underneath their flight suits).
– Did not see an example of the fuel tank but generally they are plain in real life. Just added a bit of flare for this repaint though to match the paint scheme.
– The pilot’s name is based on a real Super Hornet pilot and a good friend, and the RIO name is based on a real F-14 RIO that I have worked with in the past.
