KCKC – Grand Marais/Cook County Airport – Grand Marais, MN
0G5 – Grand Marais/Cook County Seaplane Base

These airports are neighbors in the Arrowhead of Minnesota near the north shore of Lake Superior. KCKC is now located further up the hill from the lake from it’s old location next to the seaplane base which is on Devil Track Lake a couple miles inland of Lake Superior. This area of MN is interesting to me as I have always looked at making a camping trip to Isle Royale NP (bucket list item!) which is an island in Lake Superior. To get to the island, you either have two options, one being a boat and the other is sea plane. From MN, both options depart from Grand Marais which caused me to take a look at this airport as it is the departure point for the seaplane company that will fly you out there. So far I haven’t made it up the north shore this far but I hope to some day! As far as the default sim goes, when I looked at both the hard surface airport and the seaplane base all that was there in earnest was the main runway for each (with a handful of AI buildings at KCKC). It needed help.

Updates:

KCKC:
– Added hard surface aprons to replace the grass which was default
– Lengthed the runway to the current length of 5002 ft.
– Added Hangars and other default airport objects to make it appear accurate including the taxiway to the hangars on the east side of the airport
– Relocated parking spots to line up with the painted T’s
– A bit of night lighting and relocated rotating beacon
– Runway Signs

0G5:
– Added Parking locations to allow to spawn on something other than the one runway
– Added Rwy 3-21 as it exists in the Chart Supplement
– Added Docks and taxiways along with a few other objects like the windsock.
– Some wildlife around the airport
– Some texture to the old runway

Installation:
– Extract the packages from the zip file to your community folder. There are two packages, one for each airport. You can install either or both of them to suit your tastes.

As always, enjoy flying in Minnesota!
