It was built in red sandstone between 1605 and 1614, on the orders of Archbishop Johann Schweikhard von Kronberg, by the Strasbourg architect Georg Ridinger. It is one of the most important Renaissance buildings in southern Germany. The castle includes a keep of the old feudal castle.
This castle was until 1803 the secondary residence of the prince-archbishops of Mainz. It has four large three-storey wings, connected by large corner towers, to which meet, in the inner courtyard, four smaller towers housing the entrance stairs. It was completely redecorated in the classical style at the end of the 18th century. During the bombardments of the Second World War, it suffered serious damage and was rebuilt from 1954. It has today regained its original appearance.
The fortress of Königstein (in German Festung Königstein) is a fortress which occupies the 9.5 hectares of a promontory (witness hill) dominating 240 meters the curve of the Elbe 30 km south-east of Dresden in Germany. It was nicknamed the “Bastille de Saxe” because, as a military fortress, it was used from 1591 to 1922 as a state prison and also, especially during the two world wars, as an internment camp for officers prisoners of war. Still intact, today it is Saxony’s most popular tourist attraction, with 700,000 visitors per year.

Trausnitz Castle is a medieval castle located in Bavaria, Germany.
It stands at the top of a steep rocky outcrop (alt. 500 m), the Hofberg, located in the center of Landshut, in the middle of the hills of the Bavarian Pre-Alps. It thus overlooks both the Berg-ob-Landshut district and the Isar valley. The castle is surrounded by woods, and to the east by the Hofgarten gardens, which were once those of the Burg castle and which were given in 1837 to the citizens of Landshut for use as public gardens. The Ducal Gardens, to the North-East, were redeveloped in the French style by Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell and his brother Matthias in 1784.
